That's a wonderful observation, MarchRose. I do think that romance novels share the delicious escapism and the happy ending of many fairy tales. I've often said I write fairy tales for adults.
But I also think romances reflect the real world in the sense that they are "courtship tales." They capture the way we feel when we first fall in love and almost everyone will have that feeling in their life at one time or another.
