Il racconto di Jane Austen Lady Susan fu scritto nello stesso periodo di quello chiamato Elinor and Marianne–che fu in seguito rivisto ed ampliato fino a diventare Sense and Sensibility (Ragione e sentimento). Sfortunatamente per i lettori, Lady Susan non godette dello stesso trattamento da parte dell’autrice e fu lasciato abbandonato e dimenticato da tutti, tranne che dai più diligenti studiosi della Austen.
