I always write about places I know well. Although I've had some very happy holidays in Itlay and Sicily, I don't feel I know the country well enough to write about it. I also tend to write about Scots and Scotland (although I'm English) but since many Scots, particularly in Glasgow where I live, have Italian blood, the idea of a Scots-Italian hero quite appeals to me! With those genes, how could he fail to be handsome?

My favourite romantic suspense author, Mary Stewart used to set her novels in lovely foreign locations like Crete, Provence, Corfu. I think she used to travel a lot and spend time in those places researching them. Maybe if I can ever afford to spend time living and researching in Italy there could be a book set there.

A friend of mine, Alison Hoblyn wrote a very thoughtful romance with a mature heroine and that was mostly set in Italy. It was called THE SCENT OF WATER. I really enjoyed it.
