The Dark Ages were a very brutal and dark time, indeed!  How did people survive? Of course, many of them didn't, but I am fascinated with the survival of those who did.

They had to use any way imaginable I would guess to find a way to live--if that meant fighting those who oppressed them--then I imagine they did. If it meant hiding for years in the safety of the mountains, they did that, too.

But they survived...and love and romance survived/evolved right along with them. What fantastic stories of courage and strength! What amazing stories of how love survives even the most brutal of conditions!

Sierra in Tortured, Cozette in Diary of Cozette--both had come from dark places in life--and yet through their perserverence, they survived and grew to trust and love the right men.

I can't think of a better happily ever after than that!
